Mechanism Of Action Of Fenofibrate
- Activates peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) leading to increased lipolysis and elimination of triglyceride-rich particles from plasma.
- Results in reduced triglycerides, increased HDL cholesterol, and moderate reduction of LDL cholesterol.
Therapeutic Indications Of Lypfen
- Treatment of severe hypertriglyceridemia.
- Treatment of mixed dyslipidemia (elevated LDL and triglycerides, low HDL).
- Adjunct to diet for patients with hyperlipidemia not adequately controlled by diet and exercise alone.
Method Of Administration Of Lypfen
- Take orally once daily with food to enhance absorption.
- Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water.
- Continue adherence to a cholesterol-lowering diet during therapy.
Undesirable Side Effects Of Lypfen
May cause:
- Abdominal pain
- Nausea
- Muscle pain (myalgia)
