Mechanism Of Action Of Carbimazole

• Carbimazole is converted to the active metabolite methimazole in the body, which inhibits the enzyme thyroid peroxidase.
• This prevents the iodination of tyrosine residues in thyroglobulin, leading to reduced synthesis of thyroid hormones (T3 and T4).

Therapeutic Indications Of Carbimazole

• Treatment of hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid).
• Preparation for thyroidectomy in hyperthyroid patients.
• Adjunct to radioiodine therapy.

Method Of Administration Of Carbimazole

• Take the tablets orally with a glass of water, usually once or twice daily as prescribed.
• Can be taken with or without food.
• Dosage is individualized based on thyroid hormone levels and clinical response.
