Mechanism Of Action Of Sertraline

  • The mechanism of action of sertraline is presumed to be linked to its inhibition of CNS neuronal uptake of serotonin (5HT).
  • It works by increasing the amount of serotonin, a natural substance in the brain that helps maintain mental balance.

 

Therapeutic Indications Of Solotik 50 Mg Tablets

  • Solotik can be used to treat:
  1. Depression and prevention of recurrence of depression (in adults).
  2. Social anxiety disorder (in adults).
  3. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (in adults).
  4. Panic disorder (in adults).
  5. Obsessive
  6. compulsive disorder (OCD) (in adults and children and adolescents aged 6-17 years old).

 

Method Of Administration Of Solotik 50 Mg Tablets

  • Take this medicine by mouth.
  • Swallow the drug whole with a drink of water. Do not chew it.
  • Take before a meal or with meal
  • If you feel the effect of your medicine is too weak or too strong, do not change the dose yourself, but ask your doctor.
  • It may take up to 2 weeks to show result
  • The amount of the drug you take will depend on your illness. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.
  • For depression and OCD: the usual effective dose is 50 mg/day. The daily dose may be increased in 50 mg increments and at intervals of at least one week over a period of weeks. The maximum recommended dose is 200 mg/day.
  • For panic disorder, social anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder: treatment should be started at 25 mg/day, and increased to 50 mg/day after one week. The maximum recommended dose is 200 mg/day.
  • Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
  • If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
  • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

 

Undesirable Side Effects Of Solotik 50 Mg Tablets

  • Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
  1. chest cold, sore throat, runny nose
  2. decreased appetite, increased appetite
  3. anxiety, depression
  4. decreased sexual interest
  5. menstrual irregularities, erectile dysfunction
  6. nervousness
  7. nightmare
  8. shaking, muscular movement problems (such as moving a lot, tense muscles, difficulty walking and stiffness, spasms and involuntary movements of muscles)
  9. numbness and tingling, muscle tense, lack of attention
  10. abnormal taste
  11. visual disturbance
  12. ringing in ears
  13. palpitations
  14. constipation, abdominal pain, vomiting, gas
  15. increased sweating
  16. back pain, joint pain, muscle pain
  17. malaise, chest pain, weakness, fever
  18. weight increased

 

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Solotik 50 Mg Tablets

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
  • Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding

Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Solotik 50 Mg Tablets

  • Tell your doctor before you take sertraline, if you suffer from or have suffered in the past from any of the following conditions:
  1. If you have epilepsy (fit) or a history of seizures. If you have a fit (seizure), contact your doctor immediately.
  2. If you have suffered from manic depressive illness (bipolar disorder) or schizophrenia. If you have a manic episode, contact your doctor immediately.
  3. If you have or have previously had thoughts of harming or killing yourself.
  4. If you have Serotonin Syndrome. In rare cases this syndrome may occur when you are taking certain medicines at the same time as sertraline.
  5. If you have low sodium levels in your blood, this can occur as a result. You should also tell your doctor if you are taking certain medicines for hypertension, since these medicines may also alter the sodium level in your blood.
  6. If you are elderly as you may be more at risk of having low sodium level in your blood
  7. If you have liver disease; your doctor may decide that you should have a lower dose.
  8. If you have diabetes; your blood glucose levels may be altered and your diabetes medicines may need to be adjusted.
  9. If you have suffered from bleeding disorders or have been taking medicines which thin the blood (e.g. acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin), or warfarin) or may increase the risk of bleeding.
  10. If you are a child or adolescent under 18 years old.
  11. If you are having electro-convulsive therapy (ECT).
  12. If you have eye problems, such as certain kinds of glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye).
  13. If you have been told that you have an abnormality of your heart tracing after an electrocardiogram (ECG) known as prolonged QT interval.
  14. If you have heart disease, low potassium levels or low magnesium levels, family history of QT prolongation, low heart rate and concomitant use of medications which prolong QT interval.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medications including over-the-counter non-prescription medicines, prescription medicines, herbal supplements, vitamins, and supplements.
