The primary mechanism of action of semaglutide, as an incretin mimetic hormone or an analog of human glucagon-like peptide-1, is to increase insulin secretion when glucose levels are elevated, decrease glucagon secretion, and delay gastric emptying to lower postprandial glucose levels.

Before you use the pen for the first time, your doctor or nurse will show you how to use the Pen.
You can use this medication at any time of the day, with or without food and drink.
Use this medication at about the same time
The best places to inject are the front of your waist (abdomen), the front of your thighs, or your upper arm.
Do not inject into a vein or muscle.
Do not mix this medication up with other medicines that you inject (e.g. insulins).
Change (rotate) your injection site with each injection. Do not use the same site for each injection
Do not use this medication in combination with other medicines that contain GLP-1 receptor agonists (such as exenatide or lixisenatide).
The beginning dose is 0.25 mg for the first 4 weeks. This will give your body a chance to get used to the medicine. On week 5, the dose should be increased to higher dose
Ozempic® also comes in a 0.5 mg and 1 mg pen if your health care provider determines that you need additional blood sugar control.
Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

If you experience symptoms of hypoglycemia such as weakness, dizziness, increased sweating, fast heart beating, vision disorders, or difficulty in concentration, it usually helps to eat or drink something containing sugar.

Before using Ozempic®, tell your health care provider if you have any other medical conditions, including if you:

have or have had problems with your pancreas or kidneys.
have a history of diabetic retinopathy.
are pregnant or breastfeeding or plan to become pregnant or breastfeed. It is not known if Ozempic® will harm your unborn baby or pass into your breast milk. You should stop using Ozempic® 2 months before you plan to become pregnant.
