Mechanism Of Action Of Sumatriptan
- Sumatriptan is in a class of medications called selective serotonin receptor agonists.
- It works by narrowing blood vessels in the head, stopping pain signals from being sent to the brain, and blocking the release of certain natural substances that cause pain, nausea, and other symptoms of migraine.
Therapeutic Indications Of Oratab 100 Mg Tablets
- It is used to treat migraine headaches.
- Migraine symptoms may be caused by the temporary widening of blood vessels in the head. It is believed to reduce the widening of these blood vessels.
- This in turn helps to take away the headache and relieve other symptoms of a migraine attack, such as feeling or being sick (nausea or vomiting) and sensitivity to light and sound.
Method Of Administration Of Oratab 100 Mg Tablets
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- It’s best to take it as soon as you feel a migraine coming on, although you can take it at any time during an attack
- Don’t use it to try to prevent an attack, only use it after your migraine symptoms start.
- The usual dose for adults aged 18 to 65 is one 50 mg tablet, swallowed whole with water. Some patients may need a 100 mg dose
- You can take a second tablet if at least 2 hours have passed since the first tablet. Don’t take more than 300 mg in total in 24 hours.
- If the first tablet has no effect: Don’t take a second tablet or any other preparation for the same attack.
- It is not recommended for children under 18 years old.
- It is not recommended for people aged over 65.
- Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
- If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
- If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
- Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.
