Mechanism Of Action Of Baricitinib
- baricitinib belongs to a group of medicines called Janus kinase inhibitors, which help to reduce inflammation.
- By reducing the activity of this enzyme, Olumiant helps to reduce pain, stiffness and swelling in your joints, tiredness, and helps to slow damage to the bone and cartilage in the joints
Therapeutic Indications Of Olumiant Tablets
- Olumiant is used to treat adults with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis, an inflammatory disease of the joints, if previous therapy did not work well enough or was not tolerated.
- Olumiant can be used alone or together with some other medicines, such as methotrexate
- Olumiant is used to treat adults with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis, also known as atopic eczema.
- Olumiant may be used with eczema medicines that you apply to the skin or it may be used on its own.
- Olumiant is used to treat adults with severe alopecia areata, an autoimmune disease characterized by inflammatory, nonscarring hair loss on the scalp, face and sometimes on other areas of the body that can be recurrent and progressive.
Method Of Administration Of Olumiant Tablets
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
- Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- Doses may change from patient to patient based on your age, your medical condition and whether or not you are taking other medicines.
- Baricitinib is given as an injection under the skin (subcutaneous).
- Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
- If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
- If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
- Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

- Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
- Infection such as shingles and pneumonia
- high levels of blood fat (cholesterol) shown by blood test
