Mechanism Of Action Of Voriconazole 200 Mg Tablets
- Voriconazole is used to treat fungal infections caused by a variety of organisms but including Aspergillus spp. and Candida spp. Voriconazole is a triazole antifungal exhibiting fungistatic activity against fungal pathogens.
Therapeutic Indications Of Vfend 200 Mg Tablets
- invasive aspergillosis (a type of fungal infection due to Aspergillus);
- candidaemia (another type of fungal infection due to Candida) in patients with a normal white blood cell count;
- serious invasive Candida infections when the fungus is resistant to fluconazole (another antifungal medicine);
- serious fungal infections caused by Scedosporium or Fusarium (two different types of fungus).
Method Of Administration Of Vfend 200 Mg Tablets
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
- Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- The usual recommended dose is:
- Vfend is given twice a day at least one hour before or one hour after a meal. The dose of Vfend to use depends on the weight of the patient and on which formulation of the medicine is used.
- Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
- If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
- If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
- Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.
Undesirable Side Effects Of Vfend 200 Mg Tablets
- Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
- are peripheral edema (swelling of the arms and legs), headache, visual disturbances (including blurred vision, changes in color perception and excessive sensitivity to light), respiratory distress (difficulty breathing), abdominal pain (stomach ache), nausea (feeling sick), vomiting, diarrhea, rash and pyrexia (fever) and abnormal liver function test results.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Vfend 200 Mg Tablets
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
- Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Vfend 200 Mg Tablets
- Vfend must not be used in patients who are taking any of the following medicines:
- Terfenadine, Astemizole (commonly used for allergy – these medicines may be available without a prescription).
- Cisapride (used for stomach problems).
- Pimozide (used to treat mental illnesses).
- Quinidine (used for irregular heartbeat).
- Rifampicin (used to treat tuberculosis).
- Carbamazepine (used to treat seizures [fits]).
- Phenobarbital (used for severe insomnia and seizures).
- Ritonavir (used to treat HIV infection) at doses of 400 mg or more twice a day.
- Ergot alkaloids such as ergotamine and dihydroergotamine (used to treat migraine headache).
- Sirolimus (used in transplant patients)
- St John’s wort (a herbal preparation used to treat depression).

- Store below 25°c
- Don’t refrigerate
- Keep this product out of the sight and reach of children.
- Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
- Do not use this product after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label.
