Mechanism Of Action Of Levonorgestrel Tablets
- Levonorgestrel is used as emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or incorrect use of birth control having sex without using any birth control method. This medication is not to be used on a routine basis and is usually given as a backup method.
Therapeutic Indications Of Postinor 2 Tablets
- It is used as emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy
Method Of Administration Of Postinor 2 Tablets
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
- Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- The recommended dose is:
- Take 1 tablet “.75Mg” followed by the second tablet after 12 hours of taking the first, both tablets should be given within a 72-hour period after unprotected sex. If you vomit within 2 hours of taking a dose, make sure to contact your doctor to check if you have to take another replacement dose.
- Take tablets with or without food.
Undesirable Side Effects Of Postinor 2 Tablets
- Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
- irregular or heavier menstrual periods.
- lower abdominal pain and nausea.
- Headache, dizziness, and fatigue.
- breast tenderness

- Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding
Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Postinor 2 Tablets
- Talk to your doctor before taking it, you should also tell your doctor:
- If you are taking barbiturates
- If you are taking bosentan
- If you are taking carbamazepine
- If you are taking felbamate
- If you are taking griseofulvin
- if you develop allergic reactions such as shortness of breath, skin rash, swelling of the face or neck, decreased blood pressure and dizziness.
- if you experience lower abdominal pain after taking levonorgestrel tablet in order to be evaluated for ectopic pregnancy.
- Do not take this medication if you are already pregnant.
Storage Conditions Of Postinor 2 Tablets
- Store below 25°c
- Don’t refrigerate
- Used patches still contain some active hormones. To protect the environment, the patches should be disposed of with care.
- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
- Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
