Mechanism of action of Mycophenolate

  • It depletes guanosine nucleotides preferentially in T and B lymphocytes and inhibits their proliferation, thereby suppressing cell-mediated immune responses and antibody formation.

Therapeutic Indications of Myfortic Tablets

  • Myfortic is indicated in combination with ciclosporin and corticosteroids for the prophylaxis of acute transplant rejection in patients receiving allogeneic renal, cardiac or hepatic transplants.

Method of Administration of Myfortic Tablets

  • The recommended dose of Myfortic for adult heart transplant patients is 1.5 g orally or intravenously infused over no less than 2 hours administered twice daily (daily dose of 3 g).
  • Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
  • If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
  • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

Undesirable Side Effects of Myfortic Tablets

  • Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
  • diarrhea.
  • blood problems including low white and red blood cell counts.
  • infections.
  • blood pressure problems.
  • fast heart beat.
  • swelling of the lower legs, ankles and feet.
  • changes in laboratory blood levels, including high levels of blood sugar (hyperglycemia)

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
  • Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Myfortic Tablets

  • Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: cancer, liver disease (such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C), kidney disease, current/past infections (such as herpes, shingles), stomach/intestinal problems (such as ulcers), rare genetic disorders (such as Lesch-Nyhan or Kelley-Seegmiller syndromes).

Storage Conditions of Myfortic Tablets

  • Store below 25°c.
  • Don’t freeze.
  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. 
  • The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
