Mechanism Of Action Of Rifampicin & Isoniazid
- The antimicrobial activity of Isoniazid is selective for mycobacteria, likely due to its ability to inhibit mycolic acid synthesis, which interferes with cell wall synthesis, thereby producing a bactericidal effect.
- Rifampicin inhibits bacterial DNA-dependent RNA synthesis by inhibiting bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase
Therapeutic Indications Of Rifinah 300 Mg Tablets
- Rifampin and isoniazid combination is used to treat tuberculosis (TB) infection. It may be taken alone or with one or more other medicines for TB.
Method Of Administration Of Rifinah 300 Mg Tablets
- You must take the tablets every day for the whole time the doctor has told you to take them.
- Do not stop and start taking the tablets.
- Take this medicine by mouth
- Swallow the tablets whole, with a drink of water
- Take at least 30 minutes before a meal or 2 hours after a meal. They are best taken at least 30 minutes before breakfast
- If you feel the effect of your medicine is too weak or too strong, do not change the dose yourself, but ask your doctor
- Adults and the Elderly weighing more than 50kg:
- Two tablets each day
- If you are elderly, your doctor may monitor your treatment more closely
- Adults and the Elderly weighing less than 50kg: Rifampicin-Isoniazid 150/100mg Tablets are usually prescribed
- Children: This medicine is not recommended for use in children.
- Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
- If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
- If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
- Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.
Undesirable Side Effects Of Rifinah 300 Mg Tablets
- Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
- Skin flushing or itching
- Constipation, diarrhea, stomach discomfort, or dry mouth
- Headache
- Loss of appetite (anorexia)
- Increased thirst, going to the toilet more often, and feeling tired.
- Acne
- Inflammation of the blood vessels.

- You have any kidney problems and if you are having more than 600mg of rifampicin per day
- You have diabetes
- You have epilepsy
- You have or have ever had mental health problems (such as depression or schizophrenia)
- You feel numb or weak in your arms and legs (peripheral neuropathy)
- You have an HIV infection
- You’re underweight or malnourished
- Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medications including over-the-counter non-prescription medicines, prescription medicines, herbal supplements, vitamins, and supplements.
