Mechanism Of Action Of Dabigatran

  • Dabigatran reversibly binds to the active site on the thrombin molecule, preventing thrombin-mediated activation of coagulation factors.
  • It may have less of an antagonistic effect on thrombin-mediated platelet aggregation

 

Therapeutic Indications Of Pradaxa 110 Mg Capsules

  • Prevents blood clots in the brain (stroke) and other blood vessels in the body if you have a form of irregular heart rhythm called nonvalvular atrial fibrillation and at least one additional risk factor.
  • Treats blood clots in the veins of your legs and lungs and prevents blood clots from reoccurring in the vein of your legs and lungs.

 

Method Of Administration Of Pradaxa 110 Mg Capsules

  • Dabigatran can be taken with or without food.
  • The capsule should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, to ensure delivery to the stomach.
  • Do not break, chew, or empty the pellets from the capsule since this may increase the risk of bleeding.
  • Prevention of blood clot formation after knee or hip replacement surgery: The recommended dose is 220 mg once a day (taken as 2 capsules of 110 mg).
  • Prevention of brain or body vessel obstruction by blood clot formation developing after abnormal heartbeats and treatment of blood clots in the veins of your legs and lungs including prevention of blood clots from re-occurring in the vein of your legs and lungs: The recommended dose is 300 mg taken as one 150 mg capsule twice a day.
  • Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
  • If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
  • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

 

Undesirable Side Effects Of Pradaxa 110 Mg Capsules

  • Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
  1. A fall in the amount of hemoglobin in the blood (the substance in the red blood cells)
  2. Unusual laboratory test results on liver function
  3. Bleeding may happen from the nose, into the stomach or bowel, from the penis/vagina or urinary tract (incl. blood in the urine that stains the urine pink or red), from piles, from the rectum, under the skin, into a joint, from or after an injury or after an operation
  4. Hematoma formation or bruising occurring after an operation
  5. Blood detected in the stools by a laboratory test
  6. A fall in the number of red cells in the blood
  7. A decrease in the proportion of red cells in the blood
  8. Allergic reaction
  9. Vomiting

 

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Pradaxa 110 Mg Capsules

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
  • Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding

 

Non-Pharmacological Treatments & Advice To Reduce Blood Clotting

  • Wear loose-fitting clothes, socks, or stockings.
  • Wear special stockings (called compression stockings) if your doctor prescribes them.
  • Do exercises your doctor gives you.
  • Change your position often, especially during a long trip.
  • Do not stand or sit for more than 1 hour at a time.
  • Take all medicines the doctor prescribes you.

 

Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Pradaxa 110 Mg Capsules

  1. Talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse before you take this medicine if you have any of The following:
  2. if you have an increased bleeding risk
  3. if you have had a heart attack or if you have been diagnosed with conditions that increase the risk to develop a heart attack.
  4. if you have a liver disease that is associated with changes in the blood tests. The use of Dabigatran is not recommended in this case.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medications including over-the-counter non-prescription medicines, prescription medicines, herbal supplements, vitamins, and supplements.

 

Storage Conditions Of Pradaxa 110 Mg Capsules

  • Store below 25°c
  • Don’t refrigerate
  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
