Mechanism Of Action Of Tobramycin-Dexamethasone Eye Drops
- This Eye Drops consists of two active ingredients Tobramycin and Dexamethasone. Tobramycin is a medication that belongs to a class of medicines called “aminoglycoside antibiotics”; it acts against some types of bacteria thus preventing bacterial infections. Dexamethasone is a medicine that belongs to a class known as “corticosteroids”; it works by reducing inflammation.
- This product is used for the prevention of bacterial infections and to prevent/treat inflammation after cataract eye surgeries in adults and children above 2 years of age.

Method Of Administration Of Optidex T 5Ml Ophthalmic Suspension
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
- Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- The usual recommended dose is 1 drop in the affected eye(s) every four to six hours (while you are awake).
- Your doctor may recommend a dose of 1 drop every two hours during the first 48 hours of treatment.
- Do not use this medicine for more than 24 days. The dose is the same for adults and childre above 2 years of age.
- Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
- If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
- If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
- Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.
Undesirable Side Effects Of Optidex T 5Ml Ophthalmic Suspension
- Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:

- increased eye pressure
- eye irritation
- eye itching
- eye discomfort
- eye pain
- watery eyes
- headache
- runny nose
- throat tightness
- Serious side effects are not common with this medication.
- Serious side effects: If you have one or more of the following side effects, you may
- have had a serious allergic reaction. Stop using it immediately and contact your physician.
- Signs of an allergic reaction, like rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
- Hypersensitivity and localized eye toxicity (such as eye discomfort, lid itching and swelling, and eye redness).
- Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Optidex T 5Ml Ophthalmic Suspension
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
- Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding
Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Optidex T 5Ml Ophthalmic Suspension
- Tell your doctor about all of your health conditions, including, if you:
- Are sensitive to other quinolone antibacterial agents.
- Long term use may result in a new bacterial infection which does not respond to Ofloxacin.
- Have a defect or ulceration of the surface of the eye.
- Are diabetic
- Have high blood pressure
- were born with or have family history of prolonged QT interval, have salt imbalance in the blood, have a very slow heart rhythm, have a weak heart, have a history of heart attack, you are female or elderly or you are taking other medicines that result in abnormal ECG changes.
Storage Conditions Of Optidex T 5Ml Ophthalmic Suspension
- After opening the drops are safe for the eye for a period of 28 days. After this, using the drops can cause serious damage to the eye as bacteria may have been introduced.
- Store below 25°c
- Don’t refrigerate
- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
- Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
