Mechanism Of Action Of Levonorgestrel 0.03 Mg Tablets
- Levonorgestrel prevent pregnancy by
- changing the cervical mucus consistency,
- making it more difficult for the sperm to reach the egg
- changing the lining of the uterus, making it less suitable for implantation
- impairing mid-cycle functions, which may contribute to contraceptive action
Therapeutic Indications Of Microlut 0.03 Mg Tablets
- Is an oral progestogen-only, contraceptive, commonly known as the ‘Minipill’.
- Microlut is used to prevent pregnancy.
Method Of Administration Of Microlut 0.03 Mg Tablets
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
- Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- The recommended dose is:
- Take one tablet daily at the same time every day.
- You must take it every day regardless of how often you have sex. This will also help you remember when to take it.
- An interval of exactly 24 hours should be maintained between tablets. This interval must not be exceeded by more than 3 hours.
- Even if one tablet is taken late (i.e. more than 3 hours later than when it should have been taken)
- or if one tablet is missed altogether, protection against pregnancy may be impaired
- Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
- If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
- If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
- Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.
Undesirable Side Effects Of Microlut 0.03 Mg Tablets
- Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
- irregular or heavier menstrual periods.
- lower abdominal pain and nausea.
- Headache, dizziness, and fatigue.

- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
- Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding
Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Microlut 0.03 Mg Tablets
- When you must not take it
- Do not take Microlut if you have an allergy to:
- levonorgestrel the active ingredient in Microlut
- Some of the symptoms of an allergic reaction
- may include:
- shortness of breath
- wheezing or difficulty in breathing
- swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body
- rash, itching or hives on the skin.
- Do not take Microlut if you have or have had a
- blood clot in:
- the blood vessels of the legs (deep vein
- thrombosis - DVT)
- the lungs (pulmonary embolism - PE)
- the heart (heart attack)
- the brain (stroke)
- ther parts of the body.
- Do not take Microlut if you are concerned about an increased risk of blood clots.
- Blood clots are rare. Very occasionally blood clots may cause serious.
Storage Conditions Of Microlut 0.03 Mg Tablets
- Store below 25°c
- Don’t refrigerate
- Used patches still contain some active hormones. To protect the environment, the patches should be disposed of with care.
- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
- Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
