Mechanism Of Action Of Ethinylestradiol-Desogestrel Tablets

• This contraceptive contains two types of female sex hormones, estrogen and progestogen. These hormones stop you getting pregnant by working in three ways: by preventing an egg being released from your ovaries; by making the fluid (mucus) in your cervix thicker, which makes
• it more difficult for sperm to enter the womb; and by preventing the lining of your womb thickening enough for an egg to grow in it.
• Ethinylestradiol and Levonorgestrel are taken every day without a break. You take an ‘active pill’ each day for 21 days, followed by an ‘inactive pill’
• each day for 7 days

• It is used to prevent pregnancy

Method Of Administration Of Marvelon Tablets

• Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
• Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• The recommended dose is:
• Tablets must be taken every day at about the same time so that the interval between two tablets always is 24 hours.
• Take it every day for 21 days.
• It comes in strips of 21 pills, each marked with a day of the week.
• Take one pill each day, until you have finished all 21 pills.
• Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
• If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
• If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
• Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

Undesirable Side Effects Of Marvelon Tablets

• Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:

1.  Nausea.
2.  Vomiting.
3.  Headache.
4.  Bloating
5. breast tenderness.
6. swelling of the ankles/feet (fluid retention), or weight change may occur.
7. Vaginal bleeding between periods (spotting) or missed/irregular periods may occur, especially during the first few months of use
8. mood changes
9. decreased mood
10. decreased sexual drive (libido)

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Marvelon Tablets

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
• Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding

Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Marvelon Tablets

• Talk to your doctor before taking it, you should also tell your doctor:

1. If you have elevated levels of fat in the blood (hypertriglyceridemia) or a positive family history for this condition
2. If you have diabetes
3. If you have just given birth you are at an increased risk of blood clots
4. If you have an inflammation in the veins under the skin (superficial thrombophlebitis)
5. If you have varicose veins
6. If you have epilepsy
7. If you have systemic lupus erythematosus
8. If you have hemolytic uremic syndrome
9. If a close relative has or has ever had breast cancer
10. If you have sickle cell anemia
11. If you have a disease of the liver or the gallbladder
12. If you have depression
13. If you have Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis (chronic inflammatory bowel disease)
14. If you have eye problems.
15. If you have a surgery soon.

Storage Conditions Of Marvelon Tablets

• Store below 25°c
• Don’t refrigerate
• Used patches still contain some active hormones. To protect the environment, the patches should be disposed of with care.
• Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
• Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
