Mechanism Of Action Of Ethinylestradiol-Gestodene Tablets
- This contraceptive contains two types of female sex hormones, oestrogen and progestogen.
- These hormones stop you getting pregnant by working in three ways:
- by preventing an egg being released from your ovaries; by making the fluid (mucus) in your cervix thicker, which makes it more difficult for sperm to enter the womb; and by preventing the lining of your womb thickening enough for an egg to grow in it.

- combined oral contraceptive pill (‘the Pill’). You take it to stop you getting pregnant
Method Of Administration Of Gynera 21 Tablets
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
- Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- The recommended dose is:
- Tablets must be taken every day at about the same time so that the interval between two tablets always is 24 hours.
- Take it every day for 21 days.
- It comes in strips of 21 pills, each marked with a day of the week.
- Start by taking a pill marked with the correct day of the week.
- Follow the direction of the arrows on the strip.
- Take one pill each day, until you have finished all 21 pills.
- Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
- If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
- If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
- Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.
Undesirable Side Effects Of Gynera Tablets
- Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Headache
- Bloating
- breast tenderness.
- swelling of the ankles/feet (fluid retention), or weight change may occur.
- Vaginal bleeding between periods (spotting) or missed/irregular periods may occur, especially during the first few months of use.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Gynera Tablets
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
- Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding
Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Gynera Tablets
- Talk to your doctor before taking it, you should also tell your doctor:
- If you have elevated levels of fat in the blood (hypertriglyceridemia) or a positive family history for this condition
- If you have diabetes
- If you have just given birth you are at an increased risk of blood clots
- If you have an inflammation in the veins under the skin (superficial thrombophlebitis)
- If you have varicose veins
- If you have epilepsy
- If you have systemic lupus erythematosus
- If you have hemolytic uremic syndrome
- If a close relative has or has ever had breast cancer
- If you have sickle cell anemia
- If you have a disease of the liver or the gallbladder
- If you have depression
- If you have Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis (chronic inflammatory bowel disease).
Storage Conditions Of Gynera Tablets
- Store below 25°c
- Don’t refrigerate
- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
- Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
