Mechanism of action of Follitropin Alfa (R-Hfsh)

  • Follitropin is a recombinant form of endogenous follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). FSH binds to the follicle stimulating hormone receptor which is a G-coupled transmembrane receptor. 
  • Binding of the FSH to its receptor seems to induce phosphorylation and activation of the PI3K (Phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase) and Akt signaling pathway, which is known to regulate many other metabolic and related survival/maturation functions in cells.

 

Therapeutic Indications Of Gonal F Vial

  • In women having been diagnosed with primary ovarian failure, it is used in combination with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) to assist in ovulation and fertility. 
  • In men with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, it is used to induce spermatogenesis.
  • Follitropin may also be used to cause the ovary to produce several follicles, which can then be harvested for use in gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT) or in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Undesirable Side Effects Of Gonal F Vial

  • Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
  • headache,
  • nausea,
  • vomiting,
  • mild stomach/abdominal pain,
  • pelvic pain or tenderness,
  • bloating,
  • injection site reactions (redness, pain, bruising, irritation),
  • breast swelling/tenderness/pain,

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
  • Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding

  • Eat a bigger breakfast.

  • Swap protein sources.
  • Choose high fat dairy.

 

Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Gonal F Vial

  • Tell your doctor straight away if:
  • You or any member of your family have porphyria (an
  • inability to break down porphyrins that may be passed on from parents to children).
  • You  are developing OHSS (Ovarian Hyper-Stimulation Syndrome).
  • You had in the past or recently blood clots in the leg or in the lung, or a heart attack or stroke, or if those happened in your family.

 

Storage Conditions Of Gonal F Vial

  • Store in a refrigerator (2°C - 8°C).
  • Don’t refrigerate
  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. 
  • The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
