Mechanism Of Action Of Enoxaparin
- It binds to and potentiates antithrombin III, a serine protease inhibitor, to form a complex that irreversibly inactivates factor Xa.
- Enoxaparin has less activity against factor IIa (thrombin) compared to unfractionated heparin.
Therapeutic Indications Of Clexane 20 Mg Syringe
- Treat blood clots that are in your blood.
- Stop blood clots from forming in your blood in the following situations:
- Before and after an operation
- When you have an acute illness and face a period of limited mobility
- When you have unstable angina (a condition when not enough blood gets to your heart)
- After a heart attack
- Stop blood clots forming in the tubes of your dialysis machine (used for people with severe kidney problems).
Method Of Administration Of Clexane 20 Mg Syringe
- Your doctor or nurse will normally give you Enoxaparin. This is because it needs to be given as an injection.
- When you go home, you may need to continue to use Enoxaparin and give it yourself. Enoxaparin is usually given by injection underneath the skin (subcutaneous).
- Enoxaparin can be given by injection into your vein (intravenous) after certain types of heart attack or operation.
- Enoxaparin can be added to the tube leaving the body (arterial line) at the start of the dialysis session.
- Do not inject Enoxaparin into a muscle.
- Your doctor will decide how much Enoxaparin to give you. The amount will depend on the reason it is being used.
- Always take your medicine exactly as your doctor told you. If you are unsure about how to take your medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
- Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
- If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
- If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
- Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.
Undesirable Side Effects Of Clexane 20 Mg Syringe
- Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
- You bruise more easily than usual. This could be because of a blood problem with low platelet counts.
- Pink patches on your skin. These are more likely to appear in the area you have been injected with Enoxaparin.
- Skin rash (hives, urticaria).
- Itchy red skin.
- Bruising or pain at the injection site.
- Decreased red blood cell count.
- High platelet counts in the blood.
- Headache.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Clexane 20 Mg Syringe
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
- Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding
Non-Pharmacological Treatments & Advice To Reduce Blood Clotting
- Wear loose-fitting clothes, socks, or stockings.
- Wear special stockings (called compression stockings) if your doctor prescribes them.
- Do exercises your doctor gives you.
- Change your position often, especially during a long trip.
- Do not stand or sit for more than 1 hour at a time.
- Take all medicines the doctor prescribes you.
Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Clexane 20 Mg Syringe
- Talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse before you take this medicine if you have any of The following:
- you have ever had a reaction to heparin that caused a severe drop in the number of your platelets
- you are going to receive spinal or epidural anesthesia or lumbar puncture
- you have had a heart valve fitted
- you have endocarditis (an infection of the inner lining of the heart)
- you have a history of gastric ulcer
- you have had a recent stroke
- you have high blood pressure
- you have diabetes or problems with blood vessels in the eye caused by diabetes (called diabetic retinopathy)
- you have had an operation recently on your eyes or brain
- you are elderly (over 65 years old) and especially if you are over 75 years old
- you have kidney problems
- you have liver problems
- you are underweight or overweight
- you have a high level of potassium in your blood (this may be checked with a blood test)
- you are currently using medicines that affect bleeding
- Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medications including over-the-counter non-prescription medicines, prescription medicines, herbal supplements, vitamins, and supplements.

- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
- Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
