Doxazosin belongs to a group of medicines called alpha-blockers.
Blocking alpha-1 receptors, in the lower urinary tract, leads to the relaxation of smooth muscle in both the prostate and bladder neck, resulting in the improvement in urine flow and a reduction of urinary symptoms.

It is used for the treatment of high blood pressure or the symptoms due to prostate gland enlargement in men.
Prostatic gland enlargement can cause problems in passing water (urine).
This happens mainly in older men.

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Doses may change from patient to patient based on your age, your medical condition, and whether or not you are taking other medicines.
Swallow your tablets whole with plenty of water.
Do not break, crush or chew your tablets.
Take this medicine after a meal.
The recommended dose is one tablet orally once a day.
If you are taking this medicine for the first time, the usual recommended dose is 1 mg orally daily.
Your doctor may increase the dose after a few weeks to 2 mg or 4 mg once daily.
Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:

Feeling dizzy or faint.
Headache
nausea
Stomach pain.
Weakness or tiredness.
Feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or faint when you stand or sit up quickly (postural hypotension).
Diarrhea.
Dry mouth

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding

Eating healthy food may benefit your prostate. Good things to include in your diet are lots of fruits, vegetables, soy products, and green tea. Omega-3 may also be helpful

Always take your medication as directed

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of this medicine.
You have chest pain (angina).
You have a long-term infection in your urinary tract (including your kidney, bladder, and urethra)
You are going to have an operation on the eye because of a cataract.
You have circulatory problems affecting the brain as there is a risk of impaired brain
You have low blood flow.
You have heart diseases
You have hereditary problems with the way your heart beats.
You have liver diseases

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medications including over-the-counter non-prescription medicines, prescription medicines, herbal supplements, vitamins, and supplements.
